Inter and (Trans) Disciplinarity in the Context of Musical Pedagogy

Eliton Perpetuo Rosa Pereira

Abstract

We present in this text some results of investigations on interdisciplinarity and transdisciplinarity in the context of musical pedagogy. We present initially the concepts of inter and transdisciplinarity, its main approaches and its links with holistic epistemology, systemic thinking, and complexity. Later we relate these approaches to some names of western musical pedagogy. This research is a direct consequence of the research carried out with the support of the PRÓ-LICEN program, from the Federal University of Goiás (Brazil), generated from initial research entitled Orderly Principles of Aesthetic Activity: An Interdisciplinary Proposal (Souza, 2002). Subsequent to the realization of these researches, we were still worried about issues regarding dichotomies established between discourse and pedagogical practice. In this sense, we propose a brief exposition regarding the emerging issues of inter and transdisciplinary epistemology. It is hoped that the theoretical and methodological reflections presented here may contribute to the emergence of conscious actions that seek to act in a transformative way in musical education.
